Focus on Franklin 2014 was most definitely friendly, fun, far-out and with a focus on the whole town. The weather was perfect, stalls along Huon Highway added to the activities, there were things to do along the highway and foreshore with new discoveries at different venues...

                                 Palais movies, apple delights, market, toy display & art from Huon Eldercare?

                                 Country music at the Lady Franklin?

                                 Richard Clements Glass at the Post Office?

                                 Teddy trail around town?

                                 Village Antiques sale and plant stall?

                                 Jane Franklin Museum with cider-tasting?

                                 Food stalls with wine tasting?

                                 Barefoot bowls with country music at the Bowls Club?

                                 Living Boat Trust water & boot and boat sale activities?

                                 St John's Church music with Steve & Marjorie Gadd?

                                 Vintage bike Hire? Peddle-pop icecream, candles...& More....

leading up to the magical Solar-light boat parade & Earth Hour candlelit Coleman House concert?

AND Inaugural St Ayles Skiff Regatta at the Huon Rowing Club? So much to see and do...

and finally, the delightful Yukon Floating Jazz seen from the Landcare Walkway...

It was definitely a friendly, fun, far-out focus - with enlarged plans for the next one. It will be a great river & town festival so stay tuned...

People On Water Enjoying Rowing

ST AYLES SKIFF REGATTA from 9am at the Rowing Ways. An inaugural event run by the "Women on Water" rowing group who built the first St Ayles Skiff in Australia, one of 100 around the world. A Cygnet skiff, launched on March 1st will compete against "Imagine" crews over 1km, 250m and 2km events. Form a team of 5 and join in the fun & exercise! Prizes to be announced- Retro outfits again! At the same time is the special Market & Music at the Palais....with a community raffle...10 to 2pm...and don't miss the Boat & Boot sale at the Living Boat Trust- all day!

 

RIVER FESTIVAL - Saturday Mar 29 Frankin's river frontage on the Huon provides a wide range of opportunities for all ages - the Living Boat Trust is running water activities, races, tours and cruises. There will be "Come and Try" St Ayles Skiffs, a growing worldwide community activity, through to the unique solar-light boat parade, which assembles at 7pm after a BBQ/curry night from 5pm. Don't forget Kid's hour 4 to 5pm, and for adults, wind up the night with the Palais House Concert- John Coleman & friends-from 8.30

Treasure trail and then a sail....

STREET FESTIVAL - Saturday March 29...Hire a bike from Huon Valley Bicyles and enjoy Franklin for the first time or revisit and take in the ambience, history and natural beauty. Street stalls and a "toy treasure trail" should make an interesting stroll, as well as special activities at venues - such as the Palais. Here you can take in the glory of the 1912 Palais Theatre - the original film "For the Term of His Natural Life" plus local footage of orchards and mills.

There is an Apple-fest in the Palais front room, toyshow in the original library, Fiddles at St Johns from 3.30 and at 8.30pm, a House Concert in the Supper Room featuring John Coleman and his new group "The Valley Boys" -tickets on sale soon @$10-limited seats!

Let's Dance ....put on your red shoes

Rock 'N Roll Dance  Tickets are on sale in the first week of Feb. Dance classes start from Wednesday 26th Feb at the Palais from 7pm and run for 4 weeks - grab a partner and join in, or just come by yourself and practise the twisting, turning moves of the swinging sixties - tuition, exercise and fun! Get ready for the big night that kicks off the Focus on Franklin - the dance on Friday March 28, with a "retro" theme - best costume and dance prizes!
